Chrome plating is the best way to protect your cylinder rods from corrosion and wear. This finish extends the life of your parts, even in high-friction environments. Chrome plating protects against corrosion in environments that would otherwise be damaging to other materials.

Honingcraft sources and manufactures only the best CK45 chrome bars. honingcraft stocks all popular sizes in the metric and imperial ranges.

Handling chrome bar correctly is essential to ensure there is no inventory loss and extends the life expectancy of your parts, like hydraulic cylinders.

At Honingcraft, we provide:

Standard Production: CK 45

Diameter Tolerance: ISO F7 ovality ISO F7/3

Standard Product Range: 6 mm – 127 mm and up to 6 m in length

Production Range by Request: 130 mm to 350 mm

According to the chroming experts at ChromeTech, “Chrome plating is ideal for equipment exposed to caustic elements. Chrome mitigates the risk of rust and enforces the strength of the base material. Chrome also offers high lubricity to prolong the life of a machine by reducing friction. Chrome prevents wear on the machine, but it also provides the benefit of added performance. Less friction means smoother functioning with a reduced risk of overheating”.

Advantages of Chrome Plating

Hard chrome’s practical wear and anti-corrosion advantages make it a popular application for hydraulic cylinders, but there are even more advantages:

  • Chrome plating is applied to various metals, including stainless steel, copper, and brass.
  • Chroming can be done at low temperatures, allowing no effect on the substrate metal.
  • It is suitable for complex and irregular geometries, including holes and bores.
  • Adherence is excellent. This means there is little to no risk of de-lamination or flaking during use

Bumps and Scratches

Damages caused by irresponsible handling and storage cause inventory loss and prolong the delivery time. Avoiding bumps and scratches is easy if handlers pay close attention to how they wrap and unwrap the chrome bar.

Damage from a vice or chuck clamped too hard can be detrimental. Ensure you handle your chrome stock with care.

Lifting Chrome Stock

When using a crane for lifting a chrome bar, it is vital to avoid chain slings at all costs and instead use nylon slings. Chain slings can leave dents that would require the chrome bar to be re-chromed.

To avoid damage and injury, one must consider the weight limitations of the belt. Whenever possible, use the crane to load and unload the bundles; avoid direct contact with the forks and the stock when operating the forklift.

Storage and Transit

Use industry-specific gloves to enhance your grip when using your hands to handle chrome stock. Items need to be wrapped correctly for transit. Wooden planks work well when taped lengthwise over the rod. Parcel tape can effectively keep the planks together.

Placing chrome stock on items like a tyre can avoid unnecessary rolling. At Honingcraft, chrome bars are wrapped in one-millimetre thick plastic to protect against impact during delivery.

Store chrome stock in a dry and covered area at all times. Exposing chrome products to sunlight and low temperatures can damage your inventory.

For storage, it is preferable to use rubber supports or wood-lined supports. Avoid direct contact with the floor and steel supports that are not lined with soft materials.
